Text Messages. BBM’s. IM’s. IChats. Emails.

These new forms of communication have wormed their way into our lives and vocabularies. Its not just our kids that are using these tools - we parents are using them too. Emails have concerned me for a while particularly after a misunderstood email interaction. I’ve commented previously that you can’t ‘read’ a person’s tone of voice, facial expression and body language in an email. Even if there are emoticons attached to it.

What about all the text messaging that our kids are constantly doing? Does it affect face-to-face communication? Does it affect written language? Are our children, all of our children regardless of their abilities, negatively impacting their ability to verbally interact.
