The Importance of Play

Last Sunday was a beautifully sunny day. I chose, on that beautifully sunny day to go to a conference called ‘Play and Language: the Roots of Literacy’. I refer to the speaker, Carol Westby, as the ‘guru’ of play.

The Social World of Preschoolers

Since I began to delve into the ‘social world’ I’ve become more aware of the social difficulties of my pre-school kiddos. These are kids who are now quite verbal and can make their needs known. They may even play ‘nicely’ on their own. That is to say they occupy themselves with toys (but this is a discussion for another time). However, differences become more apparent in group situations or when they’re with peers.
